Community Development Care Centres
HEALTH CONCERNS
CDCC runs in South Africa. It is estimated that by the year 2010, there will be 2,000,000 AIDS orphans in South Africa. Although some government services are available, the problem is so immense that individuals and communities cannot access appropriate support programmes to meet the needs of this population, nor can the government provide the adequate services required.

It is not just the orphans created by this pandemic; it is the families and supporting relatives that are left to ensure the safety and survival of these children. Grandmothers, relatives and older children are lookingafter orphans, often with little or no formal support. Under such conditions, it is very difficult for the children in their care to receive appropriate nutrition, shelter, and the attention and stimulation they need to grow up to be educated, successful citizens.
CDCC's Goal
This program addresses the issues of poverty and limited opportunity by providing training in applied and practical skills that will enhance the existing capacities in food production and processing, and provide vocational skills leading to self-employment by those marginalized through disability or youth marginalized through under employment or work place engagement. It will provide assistance to translate the acquired skills into meaningful, incoming generating activity.
This program will work under the direction of the Rotary Club of Bafoussam in concert with three registered Cameroon NGOs to provide assistance in meeting the needs of rural villages for improved water supply; training in improved agricultural production and food processing; literacy and nutrition training in improving the family diet; training in job skills to disabled young adults and under employed rural youth and assistance in establishing self-employment and, local assistance for girl-children to access educational opportunities.
Development Context
The program will provide for the continuation of installation of community clean and safe water systems, initiated under the 3H Grant, in rural areas of the target region in the Southwest, Northwest and Western Provinces. The 3H Grant will provide funding for approximately 50 percent of the identified need for improved village water systems.
